ICYMI: This year’s Miss World was the South African, Rolene Strauss and even though she did take part in a swimsuit round, the International Miss World Pageant has finally arrived at a decision about its swimsuit section after much debate. There will be no more of it! Why? Well, in a time where feminism is in the international spotlight and a very popular topic of discussion, the pageant wants to promote ‘Beauty With Purpose.’ Remember my post about Aiswharya Rai Bachchan winning this honor, surrounded by her family? God, were we proud of her! But I digress.
Since Chris Wilmer, the national director of the Miss World America/Miss United States organization, and a bunch of decision makers at the organization realized that the swimsuit round doesn’t really have a purpose, it is now cancelled. They want Miss World to be an ambassador rather than a beauty queen. And we definitely agree with the decision and how it plays into the topic of objectifying women. Not only that, but we definitely need to start being happy in our own skin. Don’t you agree? At least now we’re one step closer.
