So the Bigg Boss house comprises of all sort of characters with all sorts of temperaments. But they all have one major thing in common: the Bigg Boss official contract. It’s a 23 page long contract agreeing to a set of terms and conditions that they need to follow for as long as they’re inside the Bigg Boss house. Here’s a sneak peek into the contract, revealing the 9 most important clauses!
1. Shagun
Shagun aka the signing amount is payable to the contestant within a week of contract signing. The signing amount is about 8 lakhs and is the amount the contestant will definitely go home with, even if he is eliminated in the first week itself.
2. The More You Stay, The More You Make
After a contestant manages to stayin the house for two weeks, he is eligible to be paid a weekly compensation too. In Bigg Boss 7, Tanishaa Mukerji was rumoured to be the highest paid celebrity in the house. She must have made a bomb considering she was also the first runner up of the show.
3. Ek Baar Jo Maine Commitment Kar Di…
All the contestants need to be exclusively available and commited to Viacom 18 for a total of 117 days. This period includes about 100 days of staying in the house and about 17 days of promo shoots etc.
4. Jo Dikhta Hai Wo Bikta Hai
There’s only one way that the contestant can avoid being shown in bad light or in a compromising position on the show – if they don’t do it! None of the contestants have any control over the final edit of the show. The fights, the make-outs, the abuses… if you don’t want the world to know, try not to wash your dirty linen in public.
5. Hello, Stranger!
None of the contestants should know who else is participating in the same season. The identities are not to be revealed at all. Except, this clause has seemingly been broken a lot of times. Most recent case in point being, Minissha Lamba and Arya Babbar and their infamous spat in season 8.
6. Don’t Do The Crime, If You Can’t Do The Time
In case of a criminal conviction, the contestants are to notify the broadcasters as soon as they’re approached. So when Monica Bedi, Rahul Mahajan, Devender (that dude on whom Oye Lucky Lucky Oye was based), Abbas Kazmi and Aseem Trivedi were a part of the show, they had to present detailed clarifications about their criminal charges.
7. Books Are Out
No books, even if they’re religious, are allowed within the premises of the house. Maybe that’s a major reason why the contestants lose their minds.
8. No Paparazzi, Please!
If the makers of the show find out that a contestant has spoken to any person in the media about them being part of the show, they can exclude the contestant last minute too. Buzz is that Mohit Malhotra was one such inmate this year, who was dropped because he couldn’t keep his mouth shut to the media and went on to give out statements implying he’s on the show. Ouch.
9. You Gotta Pay If You Can’t Stay
If due to some reason any contestant decides to leave the show midway, he is liable to pay a whooping sum of 50 lakhs to the channel for breach of contract. The only people so far who have done that are Rahul Mahajan, Shamita Shetty and Navjyot Singh Siddhu. Maybe some others thought they had more to lose staying out of the show than in. Case in point: Imam Siddiqui, Gauahar Khan, Kushal Tandon…
