Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor make for quite an odd pairing. So when the two got together on sets of Sooraj Barjatya‘s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, there was a lot of ice to break. Salman had seen Sonam growing up, and later when she would come on her dad Anil Kapoor‘s set during No Entry where Salman was his co-star. At that point in time she would address him as ‘sir’.
Of course, a lot has changed now that she has to romance the same man! So, for this film, Salman imposed a ‘no sir’ rule – basically, she had to treat him like an equal, despite the staggering age difference between them!
I have been told that papa Anil Kapoor also helped thaw out things between the two by giving a lowdown to his daughter about Salman’s working ways and how not to get intimidated by him. He also narrated several stories about the pranks Salman has played on most of his co-stars and how to be wary of that!
Apparently, the director of the film – who has worked with Salman in so many films, as you know – also told Sonam how to deal with the star that is Mr Khan. With so much talk about this, I hear Sonam was quite nervous on the first day and it seems several retakes were done for a scene that just required them to exchange glances.
In fact, Sooraj Barjatya purposely didn’t keep any romantic scenes between the two in the initial shooting days as he wanted their chemistry and comfort level to increase with time! The two have worked together before briefly for Saawariya, but a Barjatya movie is a different story entirely!
