Love him or hate him, but you cannot ignore him. Yes, I am using this overly cliched line for Yo Yo Honey Singh, but clearly it suits him just fine! We first knew him as an underground Punjabi rapper/singer who made impossibly catchy songs that we couldn’t sing in front of our parents (can’t sing dope shope maariya karo in front of them sadly) but now he’s as mainstream as one can get (and that in my opinion is a huge achievement)! So let’s all take a moment and acknowledge that this guy is cool in his own way! Here are 7 life lessons we can totally learn from Honey Singh.
1) Don’t let the haterz stop you from doing your thang
He’s been called a misogynist, sexist, vulgar song writer who apparently encourages this thankless generation to maaro booze (little do our naive parents know that we don’t really need a Honey Singh to tell us that). But that doesn’t stop him from singing his trademark songs with this trademark rap. Life lesson, ladies and gentlemen. Don’t let criticism, which is usually baseless, stop you from doing what you’re good at! As Kevin Gnapoor (the most important character from Mean Girls) said:

2) Get that Grammy
He wants a Grammy and he makes no effort to hide his far reaching ambitions. That’s something we should learn from him. Be ambitious, aim big! This guy started rapping when no one gave a damn about it in Indian music and now a Honey Singh song is like a necessary feature in every movie. They’ve literally replaced item numbers!
3) Be a desi kalakaar and show your awesomeness
He’s quite proud of his desi roots and that’s saying something! Though I still don’t know why he made a pretty actress like Sonakshi Sinha look like an orange in this video. Is there a hidden message somewhere?
4) Sometimes alcohol is the only answer to every question.
You know it, I know it, we all know it. Now sing the song with me!
5) Don’t let the past define you
As I said before, Honey Singh started with songs like ‘Dope Shope‘ and other songs I can’t really name because my parents read my blogs (I am really scared of them aren’t I?). But now, he’s dancing with Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan and adding swag to their movies! As Drake said, “started from the bottom now we’re here….”
6) Sometimes you don’t need legit lyrics to say what you really want to say
Blue Hai Paani Paani Paani Paani Paani Paani. I get it, totally! You don’t need serious lyrics when you’re music is so cool!
7) Love and support your partner always!
Apparently Shalini Singh (Honey Singh’s wife) is his childhood sweetheart whom he finally introduced us to on his show India’s Raw Star. They looked adorable together! My point is, stick with the person who was with you before you become something big. It’ll be more fun sharing your success with that special person!
