While established Bollywood hunks like John Abraham and Arjun Rampal have been the face of male grooming products over the past few years, young Varun Dhawan is the newest entrant in the field of endorsing lotions and potions which promise to make you look fresher and rejuvenated.
The Student Of The Year star has been signed on by Pond’s to be the brand ambassador of their Pond’s MEN range of face washes and moisturisers for men.
Team MissMalini caught up with Varun at the official launch and asked him to share his own grooming and style secrets. Here’s what he told us.
Team MissMalini: What made you choose to endorse the Pond’s MEN range of products?
Varun Dhawan: In terms of face care, this is my first endorsement ever. I was very particular about what brand I do endorse eventually because I wanted to make sure that whatever I do, works eventually for people. I don’t want to endorse something just for money. I do believe in this range of products and I’m very kicked about it.
Team MM: Tell us about your grooming routine?
VD: It starts off with the face-wash and then I use the oil-free moisturiser. The moisturiser that I use has to be oil-free because I do have oily skin. These products are great for my skin and for Indian skin on the whole.
Team MM: Please share some men’s grooming tips with our readers.
VD: Since it’s summertime and it’s really hot and people sweat a lot, your pores open up. So you need to use a face-wash which cleans up your clogged pores and refreshes your skin. Make sure you wash your face often, drink lots of coconut water and watermelon juice. These things are very important.
Team MM: How do you protect your skin from film make-up?
VD: When I’m outdoors, I use sun block. But I don’t really do much apart from using a face-wash and then a moisturiser.
Team MM: Tell us about your personal style?
VD: It’s very simple, rugged and raw! Nowadays, it’s a bit edgy because that’s the mood I’m in. I think my style reflects my mood, most of the time. What I feel is what I wear.
Team MM: Who are your favourite Indian designers?
VD: Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi Mukherjee – I love them both! I’ve worn some of Wendell Rodricks‘ clothes which I really like. There’s also Kunal Rawal and Shiraz Siddiqui – some of the designers I work with.
Team MM: Who do you think are the best dressed stars?
VD: This is a tough call because people might not agree with the names I mention. I think Imran Khan dresses well. Whenever I see him, he’s always well put together and looks quite sorted.
As far as the women are concerned, Kangana Ranaut dresses rather interestingly. She’s very bold and I think she’s very cool with the way she dresses.
Team MM: What does style mean to you?
VD: I think it is about being comfortable. If you’re wearing something that is forced upon you, you’re not going to look good in it. Your discomfort will show on your face. Make sure that whatever you wear, you are comfortable in it.
Team MM: Which actress would you like to work with and why?
VD: Oh… there are a whole bunch of them who are very talented and very good at what they do. I think Anushka Sharma is very good. She’s got a body of work which is very good and I look forward to working with her on future films.
Team MM: Which classic Bollywood films are your favourites?
VD: I love Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Andaz Apna Apna, I love my dad’s film Raja Babu, Kagaz Ki Phool, Guide…there are just so many.
Team MM: And finally, any message for your fans?
VD: Thank you for all the love and support. I read all the fan mail that comes in and the letters you all sent me for my birthday. It means a lot to me. I’m going to work harder and harder to make sure I make you guys proud.
