I’ve been looking forward to Durex’s new campaign ever since we first heard that they’ve signed Ranveer Singh on as the brand ambassador. After all, it’s not everyday that a mainstream actor decides to represent a condom brand, and when the actor in question is Ranveer Singh, you know it’s going to be big – and lots of fun. So when I got a chance to go on sets and see him shoot some of it live, you better believe that I jumped at the opportunity – and, all in all, it was a great experience!
Interestingly, the brand didn’t approach Ranveer; he approached them and asked whether they would be interested in collaborating in some form. Clearly they did, and from what he says, they gave him a lot of creative freedom as well. Like I told him during our quick chat, that makes a lot of sense since the commercial has “Ranveer Singh” stamped all over it – you know what I mean: wacko, high-energy, and full of some mad dance moves.
The first thing you realise as you get on sets is just how much energy Ranveer has. Nope, it’s not just for the cameras – he seems to truly get into whatever work he’s doing and have a lot of fun with it. During the few hours that I was there, I got to see him dance in-between takes and pretty much just jump around to get into the right frame of mind. He was constantly moving, and even when he was getting his hair and make-up touched up on stage, he was marking his moves.
He also seems to be a great person to work with: he was always grinning about something, kept fist-bumping the girls he was dancing with, and could be seen chatting away with his best friend, Karan Kapadia, who directed the ad. When Karan’s parents came on sets to see his debut as a director, Ranveer ran to hug them and touch their feet.
Most importantly, though, Ranveer was very much into getting the best results out of their shoot. He was paying close attention to the time so that they could stay on schedule, and was very focused on getting his shots right. He performed the dance portion multiple times, and when the director said that he thought they nailed it and could move on, Ranveer insisted on doing it again one more time “in full blast.”
And full blast it was: you guys know we appreciate a good pelvic thrust in this office, but when it’s one coming from Ranveer Singh, it’s something else entirely. I mean, we all remember Tattad Tattad, right? His Durex ad is kind of like the Tattad Tattad thrust on steroids. And, well, I got to see him do it in person. Multiple times.
Still, everything considered, the best thing about that day – and the thing I’ve been bragging about since – is that I watched Ranveer Singh drop his pants in front of me. I wish there was a more scandalous reason for this, but it’s just that he had to get his shirt tucked in and so that happened. A few times. Since I’m an, um, decent person, I don’t have any photos to post – but just take my word for it. And be jealous.
Psst! Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Ranveer, and in the meantime, please like and share this post!
