The most recent episode of Koffee With Karan features Anushka Sharma and her Bombay Velvet director, Anurag Kashyap. Quite an interesting combination – and quite funny that Anurag is a guest on this show, since he had previously called KWK a “mutual masturbation society.” In case you missed this episode with the two of them, check out our round-up of some interesting revelations – we got to hear about Virat Kohli, Anushka’s “friendship” with Deepika Padukone, and why Anurag hated everybody in Bollywood!
1) Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone are not really friends
Deepika insisted that she and Anushka are friends, although Anushka thinks differently: “Deepika is… I don’t think she’s a friend, but she’s not my enemy. Friend is a very big thing. I have 5 friends who I’ve known forever. It’s not that we call each other, chat or send messages… but that doesn’t mean that we speak ill of each other or hate one another. I think this whole black and white understanding of relationships, especially actresses, is what I just don’t understand. Why wouldn’t we be amicable?”
2) Anurag Kashyap hated everyone
If you’re wondering where the comments about Koffee With Karan being a “mutual masturbation society” came from, then Anurag revealed it: he basically had a lot of resentment for everyone within the industry at that time. “I resented anyone who had anything that I felt I didn’t have. Which was a theatrical release! I was extremely angry, judgmental and opinionated. You were like this rich kid.” But it turns out this was based on only one episode: “I think I saw one episode, where I saw all friends sitting there and praising each other.” Then Anurag blogged about it, but at that time he had just discovered the Internet and he thought his post was just like a diary and no one would read it!
3) Anurag still expects to work things out with Kalki
Although Anurag and Kalki Koechlin have released a joint statement saying that they are separating, it seems that Anurag is still holding on to some hope that they will fix things between themselves. “Right now we’re going through a separation, and we’re figuring things out. But I’ve been madly in love with her. She’s the coolest chick I’ve ever met. And I always wonder what did I do to deserve this? She’s so beautiful. It’s difficult to deal with right now.” He also said that insecurities are the biggest reason for why things fall apart, but – when asked – said that he doesn’t think they’re done, with a small smile. “No. I’m not done.”
4) Anushka Sharma won’t admit to a relationship until she’s sure
You all saw the promo, where Anushka was basically giggling while being questioned about dating Virat Kohli. However, the actress was in no mood to give any official confirmation. Instead, she said that she will speak about a relationship only if she feels like it is worth something significant in her life. Until then, she’ll keep quiet. So (if you take her at face value) she perhaps wasn’t that serious about Virat when they first shot the episode, although we now know that they were spotted hand-in-hand in New Zealand. Maybe things are developing and she’ll open up about it in the future?
5) Anurag Kashyap is jealous of Rajkumar Hirani
When asked what he thinks Raju Hirani has that he doesn’t, Anurag said, “Everything!” And later when he was told to name one director whose license he wants revoked, he again took that director’s name. Reason? “I’m jealous of him. I’m absolutely jealous of him. Raju Hirani and Dibakar Bannerjee… they should not be allowed to make films, because they create the most envy inside of me.”
6) Kareena Kapoor said no to Anurag’s film because of his star cast?
Karan asked Anurag what advice he’d like to give Kareena, and the director said: “Next time you should not ask who’s in the film, you should ask what is the film.” Dang!
