Two of the most intelligent actors in the industry currently were on Karan Johar‘s couch yesterday, spilling some beans and just generally having a ball. This was actually a very different episode of Koffee With Karan, since neither of them are particularly controversial, and therefore there wasn’t any “gossip” in the regular sense. Instead, we were treated to some quick wit and fun moments instead. As usual, we have a round-up ready for you of some of the juiciest things these two shared on their episode!
1. Vidya Balan still flirts
She may be married, but that’s not going to stop Vidya Balan from a little healthy and innocent flirting! When asked whether she still flirts with people, Vidya readily admitted to it, saying, “Of course! All the time. What is wrong with that? It’s very healthy.” Karan Johar then said that there’s a fine line between being a flirt and a tease, and Vidya commented that she’s not a tease – until she needs to be. When does she need to be? “With Sidharth, of course,” she assured them.
Interestingly, she also commented that after marriage, she and Sidharth actually have less time for each other. “What has changed is that we used to make time for each other before we got married. It’s going to be a year that we’ve been married now, and we’re trying to find as much time as we can to spend with each other. But we’ve been travelling a lot. I thought marriage would be spending 24/7 together, but that has actually changed,” the actress said.
2. Farhan has OCD
The actor revealed on the show that he has OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and therefore needs things to be a particular way. “I have a certain issue with, like, lint and things being out of place. I find it very difficult to think in situations like that, because my mind keeps going to that one thing that should not be there.” He had even requested Karan to have a cushion moved from the sofa, since it was bothering him. Farhan said, though, that it doesn’t matter so much about what anyone else is doing – it’s just his things that bug him.
3. Vidya Balan doesn’t care what you say about her fashion sense
Vidya has often been on the receiving end of disparaging comments about her fashion sense, especially earlier on in her career. When asked what she thinks about people passing judgment on her, Vidya said she doesn’t really care any more. “Now I’m amused. There was one time when I wasn’t. I was like, why are they after me? What wrong have I done?” She also said that it’s an aspect she doesn’t really know much about: “I don’t understand fashion, I don’t understand clothes. I wear what I want to wear.” And now, it doesn’t matter to her what anyone comments, since “I am completely not in touch with what people say about me. That’s the only way I’ve been able to retain my sanity.”
However, we have it on good authority that Vidya told her stylists that the Cannes debacle should not be repeated, since she received a lot of flak from the press about it. So maybe she’s not totally out of touch with what people are saying – although we do agree that it looks like she prefers doing her own thing, which is not bad at all.
4. Vidya is happy with her weight
Earlier on in her career, Vidya was heavily criticised for her weight. Karan asked her whether this ever troubled her and made her want to hit the gym. Although she has a pretty chill attitude about it now, this was not always the case: “Initially, I was driving myself crazy trying to get rid of the weight. But everybody has a body type, and at some point – I think five, six years ago – I said, ‘Listen, I’m just going to be happy with myself because I’m not going to change dramatically anyway. I may as well be happy the way I am.’”
It turns out that after that, people began seeing her in a different light. “People actually began to compliment me far more after I made peace with myself,” Vidya said, “Until The Dirty Picture, I wasn’t really called sexy. It’s a film for which I had to gain weight, and I was showing off love handles – and suddenly people began saying, ‘Oh my God, how sexy.’”
5. Farhan Akhtar is one of the wittiest men in Bollywood
Okay, so we sort of knew that already, but the guy is hilarious when he wants to be. Loved his rapid fire! So intelligent and quick-witted. 🙂 Here were some of our favourites:
On who should star in the Bollywood remake of No Strings Attached: “Salman Khan.”
On what Salman Khan has that he doesn’t: “No strings attached.”
On the stupidest rumour he’s ever heard about himself: “That once, at gun point, I was asked to have a gay encounter with someone.”
On who he would have a gay encounter with at gun point: “I’d be like, what a crazy rumour!”
On what SRK’s tagline would be if he were a brand: “Better late than never.” (Perhaps due to his constant tardiness.)
On what Sonam’s tagline would be if she were a brand: “Now with unlimited talktime!”
On who he would be for 24 hours: “Aditya Chopra. I’d give an interview, go out partying… take selfies!”
