While seeing a film’s poster is always fun – especially since, in many cases, it’s the first look you’re getting of the film – the team of Happy New Year turned it into an entire event in itself. For obvious reasons, they chose yesterday – New Year’s Day – to release the poster of their movie, but this time they decided to make it personalised.
Remember those Sachin Tendulkar autographs everyone was getting on Twitter while he was retiring? Yep, the HNY team used the same digigraph concept to tailor the poster to several different individuals (like members of the media and all the fans on Twitter who had sent in their tweets). So, many people were tweeted the Happy New Year poster with an autograph by Shah Rukh Khan that included their name and a nice message. The team sent MissMalini one on Twitter as well; see?
The idea is cute and I’m sure it made a lot of fans happy to have something they can print out and keep. It definitely got the buzz going, because #HNYPoster was trending on Twitter for a long time last night.
The poster does give off that ‘heist’ vibe, which makes sense since Shah Rukh is supposed to play a con artist in the film. In fact, it has a vague resemblance to the poster of Players, which released in 2012. Do you see what I mean?
It’s the similar stance, outfits and sunglasses that made me remember this particular Players poster – not to mention the fact that it’s an ensemble cast.
That said, I like the poster and I’m excited to see this one on the big screen. It’s going to be a big one, too, since it will be this year’s Diwali release – October 23rd, to be precise.
Are you looking forward to it? What did you think of the poster?
