Ranbir Kapoor has mostly been portrayed as a romantic hero, but the actor is all set to be seen in a different light for Bombay Velvet. A makeover of sorts has been in progress for some time now, and Ranbir is determined to transform his body to suit the tough, intense character that he plays in the film. The first shooting schedule of the film took place in Sri Lanka, and that wrapped up in the beginning of September. Now, the next schedule will kick off in January, but in between that time, Ranbir has gone all out to ensure that he gets the appropriate look.
Ashwinder Singh, who trained Ranbir Kapoor, shed some light on what exactly they’re putting in to achieve this transformation:
“We are working out twice a day, doing a mix of strength and conditioning. We are also doing a lot of martial art training and kick boxing. We changed up his diet to put on lean mass and pushed him beyond his limits.”
Bombay Velvet marks the first time that Ranbir works with not only Anushka Sharma (in a film), but also Anurag Kashyap. Oh, and – it will also be the first time he shares actual screen space with Karan Johar! The two have, of course, worked together before – Ranbir has done Dharma Productions films like Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and there are rumours that he has been signed on for another as well. But now that Karan will be playing a villain in Bombay Velvet, they’ll be seen together in one frame on screen as well.
The film, based on Gyan Prakash‘s Mumbai Fables, is the story of how Mumbai because a metropolis – set against “the backdrop of love, greed, violence and jazz music.”
