Sanjay Dutt, who has been out on a 14-day parole from Yerawada Central Jail since October 1st, had applied earlier for a fortnight’s extension on medical grounds. His parole period was supposed to end today, Monday, but now he has been granted the extension. The actor is currently at home with his family in Mumbai.
Dutt applied for the furlough – and extension – to get medical treatment for unspecified illnesses. DNA has quoted Rajendra Dhamne, Deputy inspector general as saying, “As per jail manuals, prisoners can extend their furlough for the next 14 days and all prisoners do this. Dutt can extend his leave as per rules and we can’t oppose his request.”
Dutt is currently serving a 42-month sentence for the role he played in the 1993 Mumbai bombings.
