Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 drew to a close with Sabyasachi having the honours of being the grand finale designer. His collection drew inspiration from Maharanis (queens), and the colours used were influenced from the Lakme Absolute Royal make-up collection. With an elaborate wood paneled ramp and chandeliers, the set radiated grandeur.
The show opened with crooner Rachel Varghese belting out a haunting rendition of Nina Simone‘s Feeling Good. Model Indrani Dasgupta opened the show wearing an exquisite lehenga set.
Lace and velvet were used extensively in saris, cholis and lehengas. Western wear pieces such as skirts worn over trousers, and layered dresses, were also part of the collection. I especially loved one pairing of a bold striped t-shirt with a satin sari. The men sported turbans paired with sherwanis, bandhgalas and Jodhpuri jackets.
