Zelliges are terracotta tile formations found in Moroccan architecture, and they were the inspiration behind the geometric forms and motifs of Sougat Paul‘s collection for Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013.
As you would expect from Soup by Sougat Paul’s unique label, the minute detailing played an important role in his silhouettes, which included jumpsuits, sarees, kurtas, dresses and pants.
We loved Sougat’s colourful mix of prints, the embroidered silk boleros, the side-printed pants, and the gilets with bead work. The whole collection was a very clever use of blending of contrasting fabrics.
The clear winners were the colour-blocked pre-stitched saris, and the draped sari with a dramatic cropped leather bolero.
