If things work out, then Shahid Kapoor will be playing the leading man in Vishal Bhardwaj‘s Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare play Hamlet. The film is to be titled Haider, and while there are several other directors planning on doing a Hamlet remake – Onir, Anurag Kashyap, Tigmanshu Dhulia – Vishal’s one is heavily anticipated, considering his success adapting Shakespeare in the past.
So we wouldn’t find it surprising at all that Shahid is willing to give the film his all if he’s brought on board. Apparently, the actor was overheard telling friends that he doesn’t mind going bald – instead of donning a wig – for such a prestigious role. Considering how much he loves his hair (Vishal has commented on this in the past as well) you can imagine that it’s a fairly big deal.
We’ll have to wait and see whether this film works out, but considering that the Shahid-Vishal combo resulted in the fantastic Kaminey (which incidentally released four years ago today) we’re crossing our fingers that it does. Would you like to see Shahid in Vishal’s Hamlet?
