Looking like an uber-glam version of her Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani character, Naina Talwar, actress Deepika Padukone was the star in the spotlight in Mumbai last night where she was announced as the brand ambassador for Vogue Eyewear.
In an exclusive conversation with Team MissMalini, Deepika talks about why she chose to be the face of this brand, her style and her role in the much awaited Chennai Express.
What makes Vogue Eyewear different from other brands?
I think for me, my brand associations have always been an extension of my own personality and I think Vogue Eyewear does exactly that. It’s a fun, cool brand. Its vogue. Its stylish. And at the same time, it’s practical. I think I have a pair of sunglasses for every mood, every look, every season. Even as far as the optical frames are concerned (which I genuinely need because I cant see long distances) the colours and shapes are so fun. Sometimes I just wear it because it looks cool.
Has your character from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – Naina Talwar – set a trend for eyewear?
I do know that there is a big demand for Naina Talwar’s chashmas that she has worn, especially in the first half of the film. It feels nice to know that I’ve managed to set a trend. I do know that wearing optical frames was looked down upon, in the sense that people thought it was geeky, nerdy and people shied away from it. But I think thanks to the film and brands like Vogue Eyewear which give you such a wide variety and range, I think it’s perfect.
What was the experience of shooting for the campaign, like?
The brand was very sure with what they wanted to do as far as the campaign was concerned. We did three looks for the sunglass range and three looks for the optical range. And while Vogue Eyewear is all about being stylish and keeping up with trends, we’ve also made sure that the campaign is very relatable. When you see it, you will want to go out there and buy yourself a pair of sunglasses or a pair of optical frames and I think that is the key for any campaign, for it to relatable.
How do you describe your own personal style?
My personal style has always been comfort over anything else. Yes, I think it is important to be trendy and important to know what is in style but to never lose your own personality, to be yourself and to be comfortable in whatever you wear.
What is your diet and fitness regime?
If you ask any of my costars, they will tell you that I eat a lot. But it’s about balancing and not overdoing anything. Always balance your diet with exercise.
Tell us about your upcoming films.
There’s Chennai Express which releases on Eid in August. Finally, after five years in this industry, I’ve managed to play a South Indian girl. I play a Tamilian girl in this romantic comedy by Rohit Shetty. It’s Shah Rukh Khan and me coming back together after Om Shanti Om. It releases on the 8th of August.
Any message to your fans?
First of all, thank you for all the love and appreciation which you have been giving me over the last couple of months for all the films that I’ve been doing. Believe in yourself!
