What began as a thrill, ended in raised eyebrows and even confusion. Narendra Kumar delivered an entertaining show yet again for his Summer/Resort 2013 showcase at LFW, but what was all the fuss about? The show began with an army of “soldiers” standing on the perimeter of the runway, obstructing the audiences view of it. There they stood throughout the show leaving the front row guests trying to sneak a peel between the soldiers.
Luckily for us we were warned to find a vantage point at the back and steer clear of the coveted first row, good thing we listened!
Fight for you right was one of the many ‘motivational’ soundtracks of this show. Once we figured out the trick, the attention finally turned to the show. The silhouettes through the show maintained a strong androgynous feel for the most part. The women’s line had some strong shouldered jackets and cropped pants, as well as pretty dresses, tops and shorts too. The 50s tailoring and embroider applique was clearly a statement for the collection. For the men, the collection presented some casual tees in bright colours and Bermudas. Narendra put it all in, including shimmering jackets and a velvet tux!
By the end of the show, editors, stylists and audiences were left with a red flag waved right in their faces. Discussions over his approach to the show began soon after and continued throughout the night. Debates reigned on about his theme and choice of presentation, and without a doubt everyone was talking about it! That was Narendra Kumar’s showcase at Lakmé Fashion Week!
