Christmas SpiritLove it or hate it, us girls all have a ton of events coming up this Christmas season, from midnight mass to casual cocktails with that cutie (where is that mistletoe when you need it?). Yes, it’s all happening this merry month of December. As my FB status declared to the world, “I’m getting dressed up no matter what the occasion this December, even if it’s to go to the banya. It’s CHRISTMAS!” Just to get you as pumped as I am to get all dolled up, here are some of my personal outfit suggestion for the many parties coming up this month. I wanted to make these outfits accessible for the real girl so, I’m opening up my closet and showing you four special outfits I’ve been wearing or am going to wear this holiday season.
Family Christmas Dinner Party
I recently dropped by Mark & Spencers and scored a pair of Ugg-esque boots that I’ve been looking for the last 3 years – hooray! The past few days I’ve designed my outfits to match these boots, and you’ll find they’re easy to dress up or down. Just last night I wore them to a family friend’s dinner party. I chose to wear a simple blouse, jeans, and short sleeve jacket with a tote bag. I didn’t go over-board with accessories as I wanted my boots to take center stage (I’m all about the footwear obsessed!), but I did add my new blue Topaz ring that my parents got me for Christmas – don’t you just love it?
Teatime with an Old Friend
Every Christmas season, many of my friends who are studying or working abroad come home for the holidays. I love meeting up with them for teatime, as it’s a great chance to catch up without distraction. Let’s not forget though, most of these friends haven’t seen you in a year and you want to look your best – so naturally I opt for the most flattering clothing in my closet. For me, it’s my skirts, which I have in several styles and colours. At one recent catch-up I wore my short high waist printed skirt with a basic knit top (from FCUK) and green chain detail flats. I didn’t carry a larger than life bag, opting instead for a small green clutch I picked up from The Limited. I love vintage jewellery and chose to wear an amber bracelet I got from a WWII survivor in Poland and a ring I got from the Tibetan market.
Midnight Mass
It really doesn’t feel like Christmas until I’ve made it to midnight mass. As a Catholic, it’s the highlight of my season: you get to wear that new outfit you’ve especially picked out, meet your relatives, exchange gifts and bring in Christmas day, all at the same time. Although there aren’t too many restrictions on what you can wear, you do have to be appropriately respectful when going to church. This year I’m opting to go with the maxi trend, to stand out from the flock of girls wearing short or knee length dresses. I’ve chosen to wear a pleated maxi dress with a sequinned blouse over it, both from Forever 21. Pune is freeeeezing right now, so I also plan to throw on a short festive red trench coat to complement my outfit. And of course, the whole look will be finished off with a pair of my Christiano Siriano black heel Pumps.
Christmas Eve (or Day) Party
Surprisingly there aren’t too many Christmas parties around (especially in Pune), but for the few that are happening I’m going to dress to the nines! Considering I want to dance the night away, I’m opting for high waist flared trousers worn over a purple or black and gold corset blouse (haven’t made up my mind yet) that I stitched myself for my graduating collection in college. I’m tossing in a statement necklace to add a bit of sparkle, and because it’s going to be cold, a black short sleeve jacket too. Now to really make my outfit pop, I’m going to wear the latest addition to my high heel collection – my heel-less heels that I I bought from the Rajo (Filipino designer) for Parisian, in the Philippines.
