19 artists, 12 hours of non-stop music and an energized audience made up the first ever Cry Freedom concert put on by Indigo Live & Hard Rock Cafe. From Indus Creed, Boomerang and Blackstratblues to Gary Lawyer, Salil Bhatt & Sudarshan Patnaik, Luke Kenny (also the host of the day.) and Jazz Mac Duo, the event was perfect for music lovers. The audience was enjoying every second and would start screaming whenever a band finished their set requesting an encore. Die-hard music enthusiasts stayed there for the full 12 hours while most people hung around for 4-5 hours. The event ended with a freedom jam which brought on stage all the musicians still at the venue singing the anthem of the night – Cry Freedom by the Dave Matthews Band.
With the slogan Music for a revolution, the Cry Freedom Concert, was produced and promoted by Indigo live, as a celebration of the expression of freedom through live music and arts. Indigo Live expressed that freedom in this day and age has multiple meanings including: freedom from corruption, freedom to choose a career, freedom to live the way one wants to, freedom to earn, freedom to enjoy music, films, dance and other arts without too much censorship, or something as simple as the freedom to go out and party without too many restrictions. UNAIDS has partnered with Indigo Live to host multiple events centered around the communication of UNAIDS initiatives in India.
Shom Jagtiani – Director & COO, Indigo Live Pvt. Ltd. said, “India today is a relatively free and open society; what we need to do is make more efforts to sustain and develop these qualities. We need to reach out to issues from a profound understanding of the deeply interconnected nature of today’s world. As we know, music has always had the power to draw and unite people together. Hence, keeping this in mind, we have built a property that everyone can relate to and celebrate the freedom from various struggles, with Live music. We are extremely thrilled and excited to bring to you the Cry Freedom concert and it’s our privilege to have UNAIDS support this initiative.”
