Television Soap stars have become the new Page3 peeps, side-lining the glitterati and social-set who have been hogging the headlines for the past few years. At every event I attend these days, familiar faces from Telly-Town dominate the room with their mega-watt presence. But, I’m not complaining. They are loud with their hearty laughter, they dress chic (however, some are over-the-top in the wardrobe department) and are usually great fun to converse with.
The opening of Wild Wild West Restaurant and bar by the Meet brothers (Harmeet and Manmeet) at Fun Republic last night was a classic example of what I’m talking about. From the moment I walked in, I noticed that the venue was dominated by TV folk, all of whom were having a blast singing karaoke. From classic retro numbers to popular Hindi Bollywood numbers – like Babuji, zara dheere chalo – the venue resounded with happy cheer and bonhomie.
Singer Shibani Kashyap also pitched in and sang a few of her favourite numbers from her albums. Later, she hung out with fellow singer Baba Sehgal and comedian (?) Raju Srivastava.
Also spotted at the event were the Paul brothers – Rakesh and Rajev, Abhishek Awasthy and Shirish Kunder’s brother Ashmith.
