Prabal Gurung has proved that he is a creative force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. The Singapore born, Kathmandu based Gurung started pursuing his passion in India where he studied at NIFT Delhi and worked briefly under Manish Arora and other local production houses. He then followed his passion working as a stylist in Melbourne and London assisting in fashion shows and international publications. His journey took him to New York in 1999 where he began his career interning for Donna Karan while studying at Parsons school of design. Post his graduation, Gurung worked with Cynthia Rowley‘s team,after which that he became the design director at Bill Blass. Five years into working with the prestigious house, he decided to fly solo and launch his own collection. Launched in February 2009 at Bryant Park, his collection became a huge hit. His gorgeous dresses have been spotted on absolutely everybody! From Zoe Saldana, Eva Mendes, Leighton Meester, Demi Moore, Oprah Winfrey to the first lady Michelle Obama herself.
In 2010 he received the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award, and a nomination for the 2010 CFDA Swarovski Womenswear Award.
A major event was his selection as a finalist for the 2010 Vogue CFDA fashion fund. Prabal Gurung is a trailblazer who is an inspiration to thousands of young designers and is on his way to become one of the icons in the fashion industry.
