This post is dedicated to all the girls out there who have dreamt of their prince charming and a fairy-tale wedding; it happened to Catherine Middleton and could happen to all of you! Prince William finally exchanged vows with his longtime sweetheart Catherine at Westminster Abbey in front of 1,900 guests, including members of the royal family, dignitaries and a few celebrities. The wedding was as magnificent as expected with Kate looking absolutely stunning in an ivory satin dress. As promised, here are all the details!
Earlier in the day Queen Elizabeth gifted Prince William and Kate the title of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kate will additionally be known as Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales. One of the royal family’s best kept secrets, the designer of Kate’s wedding gown was finally revealed when she stepped out of The Goring Hotel (where she and her family stayed last night) and into the Rolls Royce that took her to Westminster Abbey. Creative Head of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton designed the gown that was handmade from French Chantilly lace and English Cluny lace. Her dress was classic yet modern and looks like it was inspired by Grace Kelly’s wedding gown. While Kate’s hair stylists have been working on her look for weeks she insisted on doing her own makeup. Kate’s “something new” were the diamond earrings gifted to her by her parents while her “something borrowed” was Queen Elizabeth’s Cartier tiara.
Keeping with tradition Prince William wore the famous red Irish Guards uniform while Prince Harry wore the uniform of his new rank as Captain, in the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals.
When Kate reached the altar Prince William whispered to Kate “You look beautiful” and joked with her father that they were supposed to have a “small, family affair”. Kate and William left the Abbey in a horse-drawn carriage and waved out to the tens of thousands of people who were gathered on the streets of London.
Celebrities present at the wedding included the very pregnant Victoria Beckham, who was wearing a dress from her 2011 Autumn-Winter collection while husband David wore a Ralph Lauren suit. Also present were Sir Elton John and his partner, Rowan Atkinson and Joss Stone.
Almost every woman at the wedding donned an extravagant hat but the hats of Princess Eugenie of York and Princess Beatrice of York definitely took the award for ugliest!
The Queen hosted a lunch for 650 guests at Buckingham Palace before the couple came out onto the balcony for the traditional kiss where they pleased the crowd by kissing twice. They later left Buckingham palace to change at Clarence House after which they’ll be attending dinner reception hosted by Prince Charles for 300 privileged guests. Here’s wishing the newlywed couple a very happy married life!
