On Wednesday night I finally got to sit front and center at a fashion show (to see what all the fuss is about) and ended up bang opposite Suzanne Roshan, Zarine Khan, and Farah Ali Khan (the cutest mother-daughter combo ever btw, Farah was super friendly and twittering away as always and mommy Zarine even told me how pretty I look which totally made my night! Thank you Sharon B. <3) From what I can tell mostly front-benchers dress sharp, beam at each other and wave magnanimously (gosh I’ve started using that word a lot) at people in the second row. But if they happen to be part of Ashish Raheja’s all-girl entourage they’re more likely to spill champagne on Anil Chopra’s leg and drop their Blackberry’s on the ramp while squealing “oops!” But that’s ok, because this was Bina Goenka’s grand finale at the IIJW (conceptualized by Jatin Kampani & choreographed by Lubna Adams) and she was definitely going for edgy-bling!
Apart from that I continued to be quite distracted by Sheesh Ashish fidgeting away in the front row while shooting this video, when the show finally ended he nearly knocked over Carol Gracias to get on stage and make a big show of hugging Bina. Yes yes, we know you know everybody yaar 🙂
The Front bench also comprised of Neeta & Nishka Lulla, Yash &Avanti Goenka (how cute are those two btw?!), Mohammed Morani, Karim Morani, Shiamak Davar, Kedar Gawde, Anil Chopra, Arzan Khambatta, Ashish Raheja, Bhagyashree, Niranjan Hiranandani & wife, Shraddha & Shivangi Kapoor, designer Gavin Miguel and yours truly, MissMalini!
Tribute to GAIA
I see now why Bina’s show kicked-off about 2 hours late. Starting the sequence with male-model-miners (Please tell me you got that crazy obvious “I think I”m getting the Black Lung, Pop.” Zoolander reference) extracting diamonds from a giant block of coal to reveal a leggy black beauty while it rains down glitter bombs is no mean feat. Plus the amount of body art & glitter on the models alone must have taken ages to do. Oooh and Bina’s South African barbie showstopper definitely had a outer-worldly vibe which I’m not entirely sure was only clever lighting and make up *shudder*
Just a little creepy, but oh-so-cool 🙂
The PR also filled me in on her theme: “For the last two decades, Bina Goenka has been crafting her own ethereal take on sparkling femininity. The fascinating collection is a TRIBUTE to the grand showstopper masterpiece; aptly titled ‘GAIA’. Symbolic to Mother Earth; GAIA is the first Greek Goddess; she is beauty created & crafted out of primordial chaos. The Tribute to Gaia collection reflects the goddess within all of us.” Boom. I feel more goddess like already. (Remind me to tell you about how I’m a domestic goddess (in training) one of these days.)
P.S. The ‘Bina Goenka’ flagship store is at the Grand Hyatt Plaza
