It felt like Fashion Week at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai on Sunday night because the celebrity turn out for Farah Khan Ali’s show at India International Jewellery Week was fabulous as expected. (I find both Farah and DJ Aqeel to be two of the sweetest people on the circuit, which is probably why there was a whole lot of genuine love in the room for her work.) Basically she designs jewellry and her collection called “Adaayein” featured a lot of ethnic clad models smiling coyly at the crowd. Deepika Padukone in particular floated down the stage with a magnanimous look of almost bridal bliss which I’m hoping had nothing to do with Siddharth Mallya in the front row. By the way, a friend of mine swears he saw junior Mallya mouth the words “she looks hot” as she came down the runway. Oh dear.
Now read MissMalini on 911fashion.frenchconnection.in too! (Pretty please do me a favor and visit that link please and show me some love? <3 xoxo)
So clearly “Adaayein” is a collection that celebrates Indian craftsmanship with intricate carvings in emeralds, rubies and sapphires (whoever said only diamond’s are a girls best friend?! I’m more an emerald girl myself.) Oh and in case you’re wondering, Deepika’s gold lehenga is by Seema & Jamila and the jewellery she’s modeling includes a choker and kundan necklace with ruby studded long earrings. You like?
(Kinda cute how they timed Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s track “Piya Re Piya Re” to play just as Pia Trivedi came out onto the ramp!)
Spotted: Farah’s folks Sanjay & Zarine Khan, ever-doting husband Aqueel Ali, brother Zayed Khan with wife Malaika and sisters Suzanne Roshan & Simone Arora. Also in attendance were Diya Mirza, Raveena Tandon, Tushar Kapoor, Malaika & Amrita Arora, Manav Gangwani, Bijal Meswani, Natasha Poonawala, Ramona Rodella, Anju Chulani, Rahdika Ruia, Sravanya Rao, Akansha Agarwal, Gauri Pohoomull, Aarti & Kailash Surendranath, Tanaaz Doshi, Ramesh Sippy, Bhavna Pandey, Seema Khan, Maheep Kapoor, Bina & Talat Aziz and Soniya Mehra. See told ya, everybody came!
Psst! I stopped at China House for a drink on my way out and noticed the Khan clan (Mallaika, Amrita, Zayed etc.) chilling in one of the booths with DJ Aqeel, Farah and friends. Eventually Ashish Raheja blazed in with Anil Chopra and his usual bevvy of (probably not very bright) beauties and proceeded to snap his fingers at the DJ to “play something faster man!” Clearly suffering from a chronic case of “do-you-know-who-I-am?” Sorry, but what a douche-bag.
P.S. I’m guessing Aqeel was responsible for the music mix for Farah’s show, he picked one of my all time favorite Karunesh songs off the album Global Spirit to kick off the sequence. If you haven’t heard it listen up, Punjab is haunting and beautiful and has the ache of a bitter sweet Bollywood love story. *sigh*
